Case of Esther M. Pennington No. 803367
On this 26 day of Sept 1904 at Rockford, county of Kent, State of Mich, before me, F G Sims, a special examiner of the Bureau of Pensions, personally appeared Minor B. Coats, who, being by me first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded him during this special examination of aforesaid claim for pension, deposes and says: I am 57 years old. Occupation farming. P.O. R.F.D. 28. Rockford Mich. I live half way between the two farms of the late James Pennington. There is 165 acres in the three places and there is not a foot of first-class land on it. If I was to rent the entire place I would not give over $150 per year. The 80 acre tract I would not value at over $1200 and the 65 acres I would not value at over $1000 and when I say this I included the home and all. For the 20 acre home place has 11 acres of water and the other 9 acres is very poor land. There is an orchard on it but this year it will yield no income for there is too poor sale for the fruit. I have many barrels of apples now on the ground that are going to waste. It won't pay to care for them. I don't know how the Pennington Estate was settled. I understand that Mrs. Pennington got $200 from her husband's estate and I do not know of any... |

other money or property she has. I don't know of any income she has aside from what she can get from the farm. I have heard this read and it is correct.
Sworn to and subscribed before me this 26 day of Sept 1904 and I certify that the contents were fully made known to deponent before signing.
