General Affidavit - Esther M. Pennington

State of Michigan, County of Kent, ss:
In the Matter of Pension Claim of Esther M. Pennington - widow of James Pennington of Co. "G" 9th N.Y. Vol Cav. On this 12th day of July, AD 1904, personally appeared before me, a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County and State, duly authorized to administer oaths, Esther M. Pennington - the claimant, aged 69 years, a resident of Courtland Township in the County of Kent and State of Mich whose Post Office address is Rockford, Mich well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to the aforesaid case as follows: All the real estate I am in any way interested in is that left by my late husband James Pennington which is described as follows, the West 1/2 - SE 1/4 Sec. 35 - Courtland Tp. 80 acres, the NW fr 1/4 of NE 1/4 sec 3 in Tp. Cannon - 65 acres - and the west part of SW 1/4 SE 1/4 Sec 34 Courtland Tp. 9 acres - the last parcel upon which I now live - I could not one year with another rent the entire real estate for more than 150 dollars. In fact my share of the parcels for 1903 come short of that amount. The crops raised now - Rye 80 bu(shels) @ 50 ea.; 500 bu Ears Corn - 20 ea.; 400 bu Potatoes - 40 ea.; 200 bu Potatoes - 20 ea.; and ten ton clover hay 600 which is all raised upon all the above lands - no fruit to sell. I occupy the premise under agreement with renter to maintain myself and daughter - he paying the taxes, I the insurance and repairs. This agreement terminates at close of this year. My insurance was ten dollars and repairs thirty dollars. My husband left no will - but cash available to me 270 dollars - from which I paid funeral expenses - cemetery lot $110 - medical attendance $30. My husband left no other personal property. |
